As of Wednesday morning, John's condition is stable. The pressure on his ventilator is at 10. When they get it down to 5, then he's off that machine. The doctors have said that he currently has ARDS. Getting off the ventilator will help in his recovery.
On a positive note, the doctors have brought John out of his medically induced coma a couple of times. During the times he’s been “awake” he’s been able to answer questions with a thumbs up or down, and has been aware of his surroundings including knowing that his wife Karen is in the room.
Please keep your prayers for John and his family coming.

Karen, Sorry to have missed you whenever you have been home in Seaside. We continue to keep all the Chapman family in our prayers. I'll be at St Vincent Hospital, Dec 1, for a hip replacement (Pre-op on Nov 30). Is John likely to be there still at that time? Perhaps we can visit and say "Hi!"

ReplyDeleteKaren,
ReplyDeleteOur family has been praying every day for John and you and your family. I guess Mariah has communicated with Elizabeth through facebook. Now that we are in L.O., Angie and Ken have been keeping us posted. I have wanted to call you from day 1, but I understand your time is very precious right now. Please know that we are here for all of you in any way we can be of help.
Love,
Mary Ann
To the Chapman Family: This notice is more public than ideal, but I wanted to get a message to you today. Our daughter, Kari Virding, was Miss Oregon 2007 and got to know John through her experiences in that capacity as did we. We are part of the extended Miss Oregon family who have been sending love, prayers, and good wishes your way since first hearing about John's ordeal. A week ago, my husband, Jan, had a sudden/unexpected heart attack and was in ST. V's all week---we felt such a kinship with you everytime we walked thru those hopital doors and into NICU-- until his passing Thursday, receiving his angel wings and soaring HOME to God's house. Through our own deep deep sadness we just wanted to tell you to stay strong and keep believing. Although our miracle did not happen, we truly believe yours will and is and that John will beat this successfully. As a wife and mother, I know too well all that you are going through right now, Karen, and I send you special thoughts & hugs. We KNOW, from our experiences this week, that God truly provides and takes care and IS with all of you. Just know that we are but a small part of the extended Miss Oregon family, all of whom are fervently sending prayers and thoughts and good wishes. We know the road ahead for your family is still a long one and that there will be struggles, but God is good and we look forward to celebrating when John is again home, healthy and sound, with all of you....Hugs from the Virding Family, all.
